Kelsey Lowell’s grandmother and her quilting group are being burglarized. Strange, but the only thing stolen is a quilt, meaningful to the owner but not valuable. The police are investigating but it is a low-profile case.
Kelsey steps up to investigate and protect her grandmother and the other quilters but the thief pins his attention on her and violence escalates. Can Kelsey piece the clues together before robbery becomes murder?

Janie Dean grew up in the south on a family acreage with her brothers and with a large extended family nearby. Even as a child, she read mysteries and played mystery games that let her imagination run wild. After receiving a bachelor’s degree, she ventured from the south and pursued a master’s degree at a college in the Northeast and then job opportunities out west. Her husband’s work took her and her children overseas which led to many new experiences in foreign places.
Recently, she resettled from Florida to Colorado to be near family. Throughout her experiences she has written stories. Still enjoying mystery and intrigue, her passion continues through her cozy mystery stories.
As a child, she played under the quilt stretched on her grandmother’s quilting frame and later took her first inept stitches. In Square One, she combines her interest in quilting with her love of writing.
I’m beginning to think I’d be a lot further along in the game of publishing had I taken this route 2 years ago. Hmmm…what do you think? Amanda Hocking did it quite successfully, and now Barry Eisler’s about to switch gears and self-publish.
Here are some links to peruse and contemplate. I’d love to know if you’d give a self-published romance novel a read even though there’s a certain stigma of inferiority attached to such literary works.
Nathan Bransford says: “Thanks to Barry’s [Eisler] wonderfully transparent conversation with Joe Konrath, we know he was offered $500,000 for two books, turned it down, and currently plans to (I believe) self-publish his e-books on Amazon with a price around $4.99, or via Smashwords.”
